Optimism Grows Following MoD’s MIV Announcement
The UK MoD's announcement of its procurement strategy for the British Army's MIV (Mechanised Infantry Vehicle) programme is welcome news for Tyneside company Pearson Engineering.
Pearson Engineering, part of Reece Group, is a key member of the UK team which would build the BOXER 8×8 armoured vehicle, chosen by the MoD.
The Programme will generate significant opportunities for both the North East and UK wide supply chain.
Pearson Engineering, together with sister company Responsive Engineering, will play a significant part in the production of the BOXER vehicle, bringing jobs and investment to the region.
Work would take place in the iconic Armstrong Works, where the Challenger 2 main battle tank was manufactured.
Craig Priday, Managing Director of Pearson Engineering, said “This is an important step forward for the MIV programme and we are proud to be part of the UK team to build this important British Army vehicle.”
John Reece, Executive Chairman of Reece Group, said “This is a positive announcement for the defence industry in the North East.
“When we purchased the Armstrong Works it was part of my vision to bring military vehicle manufacturing back to Tyneside and this decision brings that a step closer to reality.
“By continuing this long and proud tradition we will be able to create a significant number of new jobs and keep valuable skills here in the region.”
