Fundraising will support soldier recovery facilities
In September 2016, staff from Pearson Engineering walked the speed march route once used by Commando trainees in WWII to raise money for charities close to their hearts. One such chosen organisation was ABF The Soldiers’ Charity which works to support wounded, injured and sick soldiers. As a result of generous sponsorship, employees were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £3,000 which will go towards funding and development of Personnel Recovery Centres (PRC) and Personnel Recovery Units (PRU).
PRCs offer courses designed to aide recovery in a military environment. As well as offering a number of activities, such as parachuting and shooting, the PRCs also provide courses to support soldiers in getting back to work and moving into other careers. The centres continue to support mandatory Army training tests to ensure servicemen are able to maintain and develop their skills.
The PRUs exist to support soldiers with the most severe injuries or debilitating illnesses. Here, soldiers are provided with a dedicated Personnel Recovery Officer whose role it is to support them through their recovery and to gain the necessary external assistance.
Managing Director, Craig Priday was joined by a number of Pearson Engineering staff to tour regional PRC and PRU facilities at Catterick during a visit to hand over the £3,000 cheque.
Regional Director Lieutenant Colonel Barney Barnbrook said “We are extremely grateful to Pearson Engineering for completing the Commando March in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and raising such a fantastic sum. The company has very close links to Defence and clearly understands the need to support our soldiers, veterans and their families, particularly in times of genuine need.”
Pearson Engineering looks forward to continuing its close ties with the charity ad has already committed to further sponsorships throughout 2017.
