Pearson Engineering recognised with prestigious award for contribution to Spanish armoured vehicle programmes
At the fifth edition of the annual UK-Spain Business Awards hosted by the British Embassy in Madrid, Pearson Engineering was recognised for its contribution to Spain and Britain’s collective defence.
In recent years, Pearson Engineering has worked closely with the Spanish Government, local manufacturers and end-users to deliver ‘Front-End Equipment’ that will help armoured vehicles designed and delivered by General Dynamics European Land Systems – Santa Bárbara Sistemas (GDELS-SBS) and TESS Defense to overcome battlefield obstacles.
Hosted by Alex Ellis, British Ambassador to Spain, and attended by Baroness Poppy Gustafsson, Secretary of State for Investment (UK) and Amparo López Senovilla, Secretary of State for Trade (Spain), the awards recognise companies that create and drive trade relations and economic growth across 9 categories: Commitment to our Collective Defence, Clean Growth, Retail Growth, Success through bilateral collaboration, Commitment to UK Space sector, Collaboration & growth in Spain, Driving UK innovation in Spain, Commitment to health & scientific collaboration, Investment in Decarbonization & Sustainability.
State-owned Spanish shipbuilding company, Navantia, was recognised in the same category as Pearson Engineering, whilst household names such as Molton Brown, Diageo and Octopus Energy took home accolades for their commitment to sustainability, scientific collaboration and innovation.
“The United Kingdom and Spain enjoy a close relationship between our governments, peoples and businesses. Our companies exchanged €65 billion worth of goods and services last year. The United Kingdom is the third largest investor in Spain and the main European destination for Spanish investment, reflecting our secure and trusting economic relationship, maintaining 400,000 jobs in both countries. We continue to work to protect and increase our trade relationship. We want to break down unnecessary barriers to trade and generate growth.” – British Ambassador, Alex Ellis.
“We are delighted to have been recognised in this way, demonstrating the weight of our impact around the world from our business in the North East of England. Our relationship with Spain runs deep spanning collaboration with the British Embassy, armoured vehicle providers, contracting authorities, local manufacturers and the end-user across a number of programmes. It is a great example of our ability to export innovation developed by our highly skilled team on the banks of the Tyne.” – Group Chief Executive Officer at Pearson Engineering, Ian Bell.
