As part of Pearson Engineering's future-focused product development and engagement with the Armed Forces community, members of the Business Development and Research and Development Teams hosted an innovation event at the Royal Engineers Troop Commanders Course in Minley.
Head of Research and Development, Jason Riby, led the event which focused on innovation and idea generation to provide the trainee troop commanders with new methods to solve the problems that they may be faced with in their future roles.
50 trainees were split into 6 groups and challenged to suggest a means of denying vehicle access in an urban environment in 2020. Those attending were encouraged to push the boundaries of what is currently possible and a number of solutions were proposed. Novel ideas included hardening foam, gigantic air bags, fluid pits, magnetically formed spikes, collapsing steel plates, and electromagnetic disabling pulses.
Pearson Engineering will run similar events throughout 2018.
